After our cruise with <a href=\"https:\/\/florivida.nl\/en\/destination\/cruises\/disney-cruise-line\/disney-fantasy\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"bestemming\" data-id=\"6476\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Disney Fantasy<\/a>, we arrive in Port Canaveral, the cruise port located near the Kennedy Space Center. The Kennedy Space Center is the United States\u2019 main launch site and is operated by NASA. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the Kennedy Space Center, you\u2019ll find reminders everywhere of the major historic missions launched from here, such as the Apollo missions to the moon! The complex is still actively used for space missions, and you can see for yourself just how active it really is! It\u2019s also worth noting that it\u2019s a nature reserve, so you can even spot American wildlife all around the Kennedy Space Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"hoogtepunten-van-mijn-bezoek\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Highlights of my visit<\/strong>:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"space-shuttle-atlantis\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Space Shuttle Atlantis<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A real space shuttle that flew no fewer than 33 missions! Space Shuttle Atlantis is on display in an impressive way, suspended in the air with its cargo bay fully open. It\u2019s truly something special to see where astronauts live for months on end. There are also interactive presentations and exhibits here to showcase various missions and experiences to visitors. We got to see many of them up close and even look inside the capsules. Here you can see where the astronauts lived day and night! You can also take a free 30-minute guided tour here, where you\u2019ll learn all about the massive rockets you walk past!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"heroes-legends\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Heroes &amp; Legends<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here, we saw everything about the space heroes and the development of the U.S. space program. From real, personal stories told by astronauts to historical artifacts like the spacesuits. NASA\u2019s focus in the near future is: Mars! We took part in several interactive activities in this area, as well as the spectacular motion simulator \u2018Spaceport KSC,\u2019 where you embark on a futuristic journey through various worlds and galaxies!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"de-bustour-naar-het-apollo-saturn-v-center\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The bus tour to the Apollo\/Saturn V Center<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This bus tour of the rest of the Kennedy Space Center is included with your admission ticket and is more than just a ride from point A to point B. Once we were seated on the bus, the driver gave us detailed explanations of everything we passed. Since it\u2019s an active \u2018base,\u2019 we even saw unique spacecraft components being transported! Basically, you\u2019re just passing through an active workshop at the Kennedy Space Center. And that brings you right up close to one of my absolute highlights:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"apollo-saturn-v-center\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Apollo\/Saturn V Center<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the bus tour, we arrived at this \u2018theme area.\u2019 Here, everything revolves around the Apollo missions, and you quickly realize just how impressive these missions truly were. First, we saw a spectacular presentation about the moon landing. In this show, you learn how the people \u2018behind the scenes\u2019 in the control room experienced this historic moment! We also saw the massive Saturn V rocket here; it\u2019s one of the most powerful rockets ever built.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We also saw historical artifacts here and even got to touch a real moon rock! All around the artifacts, you\u2019ll also come across interesting historical stories about the Apollo program. Here, you can also relax while enjoying typical American cuisine at the \u2018Moon Rock Caf\u00e9\u2019 or take another stroll through the gift shop to pick up a souvenir to take home. At KSC, you can also enjoy VR (Virtual Reality) experiences about space flights, astronaut missions, and more.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s also a highly interactive play area for kids called \u2018Planet Play,\u2019 where budding little astronauts can climb, slide, and learn about space travel through fun digital games.
