Frequently asked questions about New York

The Statue of Liberty stands a total of 93 meters tall, including the pedestal, making it one of the most iconic landmarks. The statue itself is 46 meters tall, while the pedestal measures 47 meters. If you want to admire the entire monument, you can take the ferry to Liberty Island and climb a spiral staircase to the crown. From there you will have a spectacular view of Manhattan.

New York is in the Eastern Time Zone and it is usually 6 hours earlier there than in the Netherlands. This may differ with Dutch winter and summer time, but is usually the same.

The nickname “The Big Apple” dates back to the 1920s, when jazz musicians used the term to describe New York as the place to be to break through. At the time, the city was known as the ultimate destination for opportunity, success and big dreams.

In the 1970s, the name regained popularity thanks to a major tourism campaign by the city that put New York on the international map as a vibrant metropolis full of possibilities. Today, ’The Big Apple“ is synonymous with New York City worldwide, symbolizing ambition, diversity and endless energy.

In addition to icons like the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge and the Empire State Building, there are plenty of other unique experiences. Think a boat ride around Manhattan, biking through Central Park, a musical on Broadway, a rooftop bar in SoHo or shopping in iconic department stores like Macy's.

There are several breathtaking observation decks, all offering different views. You can choose to visit a few decks, or go down them all!

  • Empire State Building - classic overlooking Midtown.
  • Top of the Rock - beautiful views of Central Park and the Empire State Building.
  • Edge NYC - one of the newest platforms, with a glass floor and open-air viewpoint.
  • SUMMIT One Vanderbilt - a state-of-the-art experience with interactive art and panoramic views.
  • One World Observatory - located in the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, with impressive views of Lower Manhattan.

Absolutely! A city break New York with family is a fantastic experience because the city offers much more than just the well-known highlights. Of course, places like the Central Park Zoo and the American Museum of Natural History are real favorites, but there are also countless unique activities especially for children.

For example, discover Gulliver's Gate, where you will admire an entire world in miniature together, or have a colorful adventure at the Color Factory, full of interactive installations, ball pools and creative surprises. Animal lovers should not miss the Bronx Zoo, the largest zoo in the US, with more than 6,000 animals and special children's zones.

Creative children can have fun at the Children's Museum of the Arts, where they paint, craft and create digital art projects. For a fun, interactive experience, we also recommend the Museum of Illusions: a place full of holograms, optical illusions and playful installations that surprise children and adults alike.

It's also fun to take a combination trip to New York and Florida with your family! That way you have even more family-friendly activities in one trip.

Spring (Apr-Jun): Pleasant temperatures and blooming Central Park.

Autumn (Sep-Nov): Warm colors, ideal for photography.

Christmas season (Dec): The city transforms into a winter wonderland with lights, markets and ice skating rinks! Going to New York during the Christmas vacations is a fantastic experience!

Yes! Through Florivida, you can easily arrange a city pass or single tickets to the most popular attractions. With a pass, you'll gain access to multiple highlights and save on entrance fees.

Yes, Dutch and Belgian nationals need an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization). You pay a form fee of about $21 for this. You need a passport, a credit card and a residential address

Many travelers opt for 5 days of New York, enough for the highlights as well as a few hidden gems. This gives you enough time to explore the city at your leisure!
