Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque - Abu Dhabi

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is located in Abu Dhabi and is the largest mosque in the United Arab Emirates! In addition, this mosque is also in the top 10 largest mosques in the world. The mosque is named after Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of the United Arab Emirates and first president of this country. The mosque opened in 2007 and has been an important religious and cultural symbol ever since. 

A few impressive facts about the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque:

• This mosque features 82 domes, 1,000 pillars and 4 minarets.
• There is room for as many as 40,000 people to pray at the same time. 
• One of the largest chandeliers in the world hangs in this prayer hall and is covered in 24-carat gold. 
• Inside this mosque you will find one of the largest hand-knotted carpets of 5,627 square meters! 

Women should wear long pants or skirts to the ankles, no see-through clothing and a headscarf during a visit to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
