ESTA applications for America: price increase as of Sept. 30, 2025

Will you be traveling to the United States soon? Then you probably need an ESTA. Starting September 30, 2025, the price of the ESTA application will increase from $21 to $40.

Because an ESTA is valid for two years, it may be smart to arrange your application now. This way you avoid higher costs and are well prepared for your trip.

What is an ESTA and why do you need it?

An ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) is a digital travel authorization that is mandatory for travelers from countries participating in the Visa Waiver Program, such as the Netherlands. An approved ESTA allows you to travel to the U.S. without a visa for up to 90 days.

Do you travel longer than 90 days or do not meet the conditions of the program? Then you will need a visa.

Who need an ESTA?

How quickly do you get approval?

In most cases, you will receive an approval email within 72 hours. Sometimes it is faster, but it can also take longer if your application needs additional verification.

Validity

An approved ESTA is valid for two years or until your passport expires. Within this period, you can travel to the U.S. multiple times, as long as each stay does not exceed 90 days.

Important: If you apply for a new passport, you always need a new ESTA.

When is the best time to make your application?
