Disney surprises again with a ‘whole new world’! In May 2025, The Walt Disney Company announced that there will be a brand new Disney park in Abu Dhabi. Disney Abu Dhabi will be the first Disney resort in the Middle East and already the seventh worldwide. A huge development that we as Disney fans are of course incredibly excited about!
Although construction has not yet begun, and many details are still secret, below we share what we already know regarding this spectacular new destination!
After 15 years, it is once again time for Mickey and his friends to explore a new location! Disney Abu Dhabi will open on the artificial island ‘Yas’ right on the water and 20 minutes away from downtown Abu Dhabi. For lovers of theme parks, Yas Island is ‘the place to be. After all, here you will find several impressive theme parks together! Want to experience all the theme parks in Abu Dhabi for yourself? Then check out our trip to the theme parks of Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
For example, a stone's throw from where Disney Abu Dhabi will be built is also the beautiful Sea World Abu Dhabi and the adventurous Ferrari World Abu Dhabi. This makes Yas Island even more the ideal location for an amusement park vacation to the Middle East. Also Dubai is easy to reach, after a car ride of about 50 minutes you are easily in this impressive city. Although nothing has been confirmed yet regarding the exact location of the park, it is clear where Disney Abu Dhabi will eventually be located.

For this ambitious project, The Walt Disney Company is partnering with Miral, a leading developer behind many major entertainment projects on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. Miral is already known for creating innovative leisure and tourism destinations in Abu Dhabi. Among other things, they are responsible for the development of Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World, Yas Waterworld and Sea World Abu Dhabi.
In this partnership, Miral is taking on the financing, construction and operation of the new Disney park. Disney Imagineering will provide the design, creative storytelling and authentic Disney magic familiar from other resorts worldwide. Thanks to this combination of local expertise and Disney's global experience, this park already promises to be an unparalleled experience for visitors from around the world.

The new park in Abu Dhabi is described as “authentic Disney,” but at the same time will have a distinct Emirati signature. That means visitors can expect iconic Disney magic combined with influences from the rich culture, architecture and stories of the United Arab Emirates. Think unique decorations, local flavors in restaurants and theming that ties in with the region.
The Walt Disney Company has shown before that they can intertwine culture and tradition well with their signature storytelling. Shanghai Disneyland for example, is designed with the philosophy of “authentically Disney, distinctly Chinese,” with Chinese architecture and traditions subtly incorporated into the themed areas. Also Tokyo DisneySea is known worldwide for its unique design and theming that strongly reflects Japanese aesthetics and experience.
An official opening date for Disney Abu Dhabi has not yet been announced. What is clear, however, is that this is a huge and complex project that will take several years to complete. The park will be completely newly developed, including themed areas, attractions, hotels and infrastructure. Construction has not yet begun, so we can only hope for the moment that plans are already on the table!
Looking at previous Disney parks, such as Shanghai Disneyland (opened in 2016 after more than five years of construction) and Hong Kong Disneyland (more than four years), it is likely that Disneyland Abu Dhabi will not be completed before 2030 either. Moreover, Disney has indicated that this park will be one of the most innovative ever, which may result in a longer construction period.

At this time, little is known about the exact interpretation of this newest park, only a few images consisting of watercolor concept art. We cannot get any specific facts from this yet, only speculate about it. However, we do have some ideas about this new park and what we expect to see back.
We suspect that several themed areas will return, just like the other parks. Also, these areas will again be inspired by popular Disney stories and characters, such as the newest Frozen area that will open its doors at Disneyland Paris in 2026. However, we do expect, or also hope, that new concepts will be developed specifically for Disney Abu Dhabi.

It is likely that innovative technology will play an important role. Disney itself has already stated that this will be one of the most advanced parks ever, with interactive experiences, impressive shows and attractions featuring the latest technology.
Developer Miral already has a lot of experience in this, for example with the huge interactive aquariums at SeaWorld Abu Dhabi and the impressive indoor projections at Warner Bros. World. Thanks to this combination of Disney's storytelling and Miral's expertise, we can expect a park where technology, experience and magic come together perfectly.
Given Abu Dhabi's hot climate, it is likely that much of the park will be built indoors, similar to Warner Bros. World on Yas Island, for example. This would make the park comfortable for visitors regardless of the season. These rumors have surfaced several times in official press releases and interviews, although nothing has yet been confirmed by Disney. This would fit well with the ambitions for a park that offers an optimal experience year-round, even during the hottest summer months.
Of course, an imposing Disney castle is not to be missed. Although nothing has been officially confirmed yet, many fans expect Disney Abu Dhabi to have a unique castle designed specifically for this location. As with other parks, it will likely be the iconic centerpiece of the resort, but with influences from Emirati culture and architecture. Think details inspired by traditional patterns, shapes and colors, combined with Disney's recognizable magic.

That Disney chose Yas Island in particular is no coincidence. This island in Abu Dhabi has quickly become an international entertainment center with leading theme parks such as Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi. Thanks to this mix of attractions and resorts, Yas Island attracts millions of visitors every year and has proven to be the place for large-scale leisure projects. We tell you even more about these parks in this blog!
Its location also makes Yas Island particularly attractive. The island is just a one-hour drive from Dubai and is easily accessible via Abu Dhabi International Airport. Moreover, Yas Island is located in a place that is accessible to nearly a third of the world's population within a four-hour flight. This makes it a top destination not only for local visitors, but also for international travelers. Moreover, Abu Dhabi is known as a modern and safe city. You can read more about that in our blog about the security in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
With the arrival of Disneyland Abu Dhabi, Yas Island gains an absolute eye-catcher. The new Disney park strengthens Abu Dhabi's position as a global vacation destination and makes Yas Island even more attractive to families, adventurers and, of course, Disney fans.

An official opening date has not yet been announced. Construction is expected to take several years and the park may open around 2030.
Most likely it will be a hybrid park: a combination of indoor and outdoor areas. This suits Abu Dhabi's warm climate and provides a comfortable year-round experience.
Unfortunately not yet! As soon as the official opening and packages are known, we will add them on our website. Until then, though, you can explore our Disney trips to Orlando, Anaheim, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Shanghai.
Disney chose Abu Dhabi because of the strategic location of Yas Island, accessible to nearly a third of the world's population within a four-hour flight, as well as its ability to minimize risk. Miral finances and operates the park, while Disney provides only design and creative oversight.
It seems that visiting Disneyland Abu Dhabi may become cheaper than going to the U.S. parks. Disney is adjusting ticket prices according to local economic conditions, which previously happened in France and Japan.
Disney suggested that design could take one to two years, with four to six years thereafter for construction. An opening date between 2030 and 2033 was mentioned earliest.
Disney has not yet announced any official themed areas, but there is much speculation about exclusive zones being developed specifically for Abu Dhabi. Possibly elements of Emirati culture and architecture will be incorporated, in addition to familiar worlds such as Frozen, Star Wars, Marvel and Pixar.
Probably so. In previous Disney resorts worldwide, the hotels have always been an important part of the experience. Disneyland Abu Dhabi is also expected to have unique hotels, possibly with a combination of luxury resorts and family-friendly stays, all in the style of Disney.
Very likely. Disney worldwide always focuses on family-friendly experiences, but often combines this with spectacular attractions and shows that are also of interest to adults. Think a mix of quiet family attractions, interactive areas for kids and high-tech thrill rides. Abu Dhabi and Miral are also very good at family destinations, we therefore also expect good service for families & children.
While many people think the culture in the United Arab Emirates is very strict, Yas Island is actually known for its welcoming and international atmosphere. Thanks to the large presence of expats, it feels more modern and open here than in other parts of the Middle East. In resorts, restaurants and hotels, for example, it is simply possible to order a (alcoholic) drink and enjoy a relaxed vacation atmosphere.
