Begin your exploration in Harajuku, the district known for its colorful and eye-catching fashion. At its heart is Takeshita-dori, a narrow street full of trendy stores, cafes and street food. Here you will taste unusual snacks such as rainbow cotton candy bars, crepes with whipped cream and the popular animal pancakes in themed cafes. 

Then you can move on to Shinjuku, a district full of skyscrapers, bright billboards, restaurants and nightlife. Or opt for Akihabara, better known as “Electric Town,” where fans of anime, manga and games will have their fill.

Shopping in Tokyo is also an experience. In Shibuya you will find a large Disney Store and in Shibuya Parco and Ikebukuro the official Nintendo Stores with merchandise of Mario, Pokémon and Zelda.

On the outskirts of Tokyo is the Tokyo Disney Resort, consisting of two special parks loved worldwide.

Tokyo Disneyland

Tokyo Disneyland is inspired by the original park in California, but also has its own attractions and shows that you will only find here. The park is known for its beautiful parades, unique shows and, of course, the top attraction: Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast. There are a huge number of fun areas and restaurants that are all family-friendly. This park is therefore ideal to visit with small children. Get the most out of your stay in Tokyo with these tips:

• Flight to Tokyo - From Amsterdam, you fly directly to Tokyo in about 11 to 12 hours. Several airlines offer direct connections.
• Train trips - With the Japan Rail Pass you can easily board the Shinkansen (high-speed train) towards cities such as Kyoto and Osaka. For many travelers, the Shinkansen ride itself is already a highlight of the trip, thanks to the speed, comfort and views along the way.
• Money and payment - In Tokyo, you pay with the Japanese yen. You can use debit cards in most stores and stations, but some cash is always handy.
• Internet & wifi - Many hotels and cafes in Tokyo offer free wifi. For traveling, it's best to rent a pocket wifi or buy a SIM card.
